Today in a down time moment when we were finishing an art project, some of the kids that were finished were sitting at their desks coloring pictures. One student came to me with a piece of paper with two holes cut in it and said "Look I made a mask!" That's nice. Great. Next thing I know I look up to see the same child walking around the room with the "mask" GLUED to his face. Oh yes, he did. He used his ever creative imagination and the materials at hand (Elmer's) to glue his mask onto his face. I politely asked him to take it off at which point he was loudly proclaiming, "Ow, ow oow" and I was trying very hard not to laugh. This story gets better though when after taking it off I see that the green marker he had been using to color the mask has bled through the paper because of the glue and turned part of his face green. Oh yes, it did. Luckily, it was washable and he did not go home with green all over his face. Not sure how if I'm going to bring that one up at P/T conferences or not. Not really sure how to start that conversation, "Well, your child is very creative. Just yesterday he glued a piece of paper to his face because he didn't have any string! He then proceed to complain about how it hurt to take off but he sure was excited about that mask!!" Maybe not.
Parent/Teacher conferences are tomorrow night and Friday morning. Wish me luck! It's one place where I have yet to be on either side of the picture so if nothing else it will be one more "1st" out of the way. Looking forward to having it behind me.
