We've had Christmas, New Year's, and 1 whole week of school gone by since my last post. We survived back to school week #2 after the 10 day break. By the end of the week, we were starting to get back into the swing of things. I had my mean teacher voice ready and while parts of the day fell apart the whole day didn't. The got outside for recess 3 days which definitely helped, but we'll be back inside this week and the challenges continue. We have LOTS going on this week with the wedding of Q and U and a quilting demonstration for the kids to see.
We were talking in the teacher's lounge this week about creative consequences and I really put that into practice. After throwing kiwi, two boys had to stay back from PE and pick up the entire room. The next day, one of the same kids was throwing pencils and crayons so I made him stay behind and pick up everything all by himself. It might take one more time but I think his throwing days are almost over. There's also this kid who likes to crawl under the tables all the time. I told him the next time he was crawling on the floor, I would just keep him in from recess to crawl under the tables the whole time since he liked it so much. Also might have to actually happen a few times but I think it might fix that problem. Still have a few problems left but we'll try to keep the creative juices flowing.
Learning about money always seems to bring out the best in kids. Last year, it was that all president's were liars. This year, it's even better:
Me: Does anyone know who the man is on the penny?
Student: GOD!
Me: The president is the person who is in charge of our country.
Same Student: Wait! I thought God was in charge of everybody!? Is God on the other money??
There wasn't much explaining by me except to say that we don't know what God looks like so we can't really put him on money. I'll just leave it at that for now. At least somebody knows who is in charge.
